Bowlers help gain control at the end of day 1 against Bangladesh

Thanks to an all-round performance by the Indian bowlers helped them to gain control at the end of the first day of first Test match played at Holkar Stadium, Indore played on Thursday.

Bangladesh captain Mominal Haque won the toss and decided to bat first. Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma troubled Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes with good swing bowling. Umesh got the breakthrough dismissing Imrul Kayes with a simple catch to Rahane. In the next over, Ishant Sharma dismissed Shadman Islam to put Bangladesh under pressure . Mohammad Mithun and Bangladeshi captain Haque struggled against the Indian bowlers but remained defiant. In the first hour, Bangladesh scored just 19 runs for loss of 2 wickets.

Mohammed Shami got the wicket of Mithun to put Bangladesh under pressure at 31 for 3. The experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominal Haque played with confidence and took Bangladesh to 63 for 3 at lunch.

After the lunch break, Rahim and Haque showed aggressive intent making the batting look easy. As things were looking dangerous for India, Ravichandran Ashwin provided breakthrough dismissing Bangladeshi captain Mominal for well made 37. Haque and Rahim added 68 runs for the 4th wicket. Rahim looked confident with his stroke play. Ashwin struck again to get rid of Mahmudllah cheaply. Liton Das came to the crease and played aggressive strokes. Before the stroke of Tea break, Mohammed Shami dismissed Rahim and Mehidy Hasan in successive balls to leave Bangladesh in tatters at 140 for 7.

The Indian fast bowlers wreaked havoc among the Bangladeshi batsmen. Taijul Islam was brilliantly run out by Ravindra Jadeja. India bowled out Bangladesh for 150. Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin took 2 wickets each while Mohammed Shami was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 27.

In reply, India lost an early wicket of Rohit Sharma cheaply for 6 by Abu Jayed. Cheteshwar Pujara came to the crease and looked positive. Mayank mixed his approach with defence and caution. Before the end of play, Mayank was dropped by Imrul Kayes. India ended the first day at 86 for 1. Pujara and Mayank have added so far 72 runs for the 2nd wicket so far.

India 86 for 1 in 26 overs ( Cheteshwar Pujara 43*, Mayank Agarwal 37*, Abu Jayed 1/21) trail Bangladesh 150 in 58.3 overs ( Mushfiqur Rahim 43, Mominal Haque 37, Mohammed Shami 3/27, Ishant Sharma 2/20) by 64 runs.
