Jamaica Tallawahs became the first team to be knocked out of the Caribbean Premier League 2019 edition after their loss to St Lucia Zouks on 27th September at the Darren Sammy Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
St Lucia Zouks captain Darren Sammy won the toss and decided to field first. Jamaica Tallawahs openers Chris Gayle and Glenn Philips got Jamaica off to a flying start adding 48 runs in 4.4 overs. Viljoen got the breakthrough for ST Lucia Zouks dismissing Philips for a quickfire 23 off 11 balls. At the end of 6 overs, Jamaica Tallawahs were 60 for 1.
After the power play overs, Dwayne Smith played with positive intent and put pressure on Zouks bowlers. Gayle could not score at a fast pace. Smith and Liton Das steadied the innings for Jamaica side adding 56 runs for the 3rd wicket. Smith reached his fifty off 30 balls. After the fall of Das wicket, Zouks bowlers made a strong comeback to restrict the run flow and also picked wickets at regular intervals. Zouks restricted Jamaica to 165 for 7. Kesrick Williams was the pick of bowlers for Zouks with 3 for 24, Santoike took 2 for 31.
Chasing down the target of 166 runs to win, Andre Fletcher and Rakheem Cornwall took the attack to Jamaica bowlers putting on 49 runs in 3.5 overs. Cornwall was simply sensational with big hits. At the end of 6 overs, ST Lucia Zouks were 66 for 1.
After the power play overs, Cornwall continued his power hitting and reached his fifty off 24 balls. Jamaica bowlers came back strongly in the match by picking wickets of Cornwall, Colin de Grandhomme, Colin Ingram. Viljoen looked aggressive with his intent and scored a quickfire 32 off 24 balls.
With 19 runs needed off 2 overs, Zouks captain Darren Sammy hit 2 sixes off Springer bowling which titled the match in favor of the hosts. Santokie hit the winning runs and helped Zouks win the match by 4 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
Jamaica Tallawahs are currently at the bottom of the points table with only 4 points. They have played so far 9 matches with 2 wins and 7 losses. It is the first time Jamaica has not qualified for the playoffs stage in CPL history.
