First T20I match between India and Sri Lanka abandoned due to leakage of water on pitch

The first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka has been abandoned due to lack of leakage of water on pitch played at Basapara Stadium, Guwahati on Sunday.

The Indian Cricket captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first. In today’s match, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey and Sanju Samson was not included in the playing XI. With lots of moisture on the pitch and dew on the ground, Kohli won the toss and decided to field first.

Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga did not experienced Mathews for the first T20I. Lahiru Kumara, Lasith Malinga, Isuru Udana were the 3 pacers included in the XI. Wanindu Hasaranga, Dhanjaya de Silva was included as the spinners. In the batting department, Oshando Fernando, Avishka Fernando, Danushka Gunathilka, Kusal Perera, Bhanuka Rajapaksa were included. The match was a damp squib for the capacity crowd in Guwahati.

These 3 matches were a dress rehearsal for the World T20 to be played in Australia. There were 3 to 4 inspections for the match. After the rain stopped, there were heavy puddles and the groundsmen tried their best to get a 5 over match. Despite their efforts, the umpires decided to call off the match and the 1st T20I match of 2020 was washed out.

It was a superb effort by the groundsmen to get a match. The Indian team dominated the Sri Lanka in the last 10 matches as the Men in Blue 8 while Sri Lanka registered 2 wins.

After a short break for the Indian team, this was an chance to test their combinations for the prestigious tournament to be held in October.

The second T20I of the series will be held at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 7th January. When these two teams met at this stadium, Rohit Sharma hit the joint fastest century in 2017.
