Points table of the ICC Test Championship after England versus South Africa Test series

England defeated South Africa by 191 runs in the fourth and final Test match played at Wanders Stadium, Johannesburg on 28th January 2020 . After losing the first Test match by 107 runs at Super Sport Park, Centurion, the England Cricket Team showed great fighting spirit to win the next three matches with dominating performance.

Here we look at the latest ICC Test Championship points table

  1. India

The Indian Cricket Team is currently at the top of points table with 360 points. They have played 7 matches and won all of them. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India won the Test series 2-0 in West Indies, 3-0 and 2-0 respectively against South Africa and Bangladesh at home which have increased their lead.

Their next big assignment will be a 2 match Test series against New Zealand from 21st February 2020. After dominating at home, the Indian Cricket Team would be looking to create history winning a Test series on New Zealand shores after 2009.

  1. Australia

Australia is at 2nd position with 296 runs points. After drawing the Ashes 2-2, the Australian Cricket Team dominated Pakistan and New Zealand at home to earn 240 points. Their next series will be against Bangladesh in Bangladesh during June.

  1. England

England have moved to number 3rd in the points table with 146. After drawing the series 2-2 against Australia, under the captaincy of Joe Root, the England Cricket Team proved their critics wrong by winning the series 3-1.

Now, England is at 116 points. They have played so far 9 matches, winning 5, losing 3 and draw 1. Their next series will be against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.

  1. Pakistan

Pakistan is currently at number 4 in the points table with 80 points. After being whitewashed by Australia 0-2, the Pakistani team drew one match and then won the 2nd Test match at Karachi by a massive margin to gain 80 points in the series.

Their next series will be against Bangladesh with first one to be played from 7th February and the 2nd one to be played from 5th April.

  1. Sri Lanka

After drawing the 2 match Test series against New Zealand at home last year, the Sri Lankan Cricket Team earned 20 points for a draw in the first Test against Pakistan and then were trashed by a massive gap to lose the match at Karachi.

Sri Lanka are currently at 80 points, but the net run rate is more than Pakistan. Their next Test series will be against England in March Test year.

  1. New Zealand

New Zealand is currently at 6th place in the points table. They have played two Test series drawing the series in Sri Lanka 1-1. After that they were trashed by Australia 0-3 away from home. Their next series will be against the number 1 ranked Test team India from 21st February.

  1. South Africa

South Africa slipped down to 7th with 24 points. They started their campaign against India and were whitewashed by the hosts 0-3.

Under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, South Africa won the first Test match by 107 runs to earn 30 points. After that they lost all three matches and were docked 6 ICC Test Championship points due to slow over rate. Their next Test series will be against South Africa in July.

West Indies and Bangladesh have not opened their account in the points table. They have played one series each losing to India.

West Indies will feature against England in three match Test series in June. While Bangladesh will face Pakistan in two match Test series.
