Stats: Deepak Chahar becomes the 8th Indian bowler to take an hattrick in international cricket

Picking up a hattrick in any format of the game is a special achievement. Deepak Chahar achieved the same feat as he took 3 wickets off 3 balls in the 3rd and deciding T20I match played at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on Sunday.

Deepak Chahar got wickets of Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar to put the visitors on backfoot. When the partnership between Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Mithun was going on, Chahar struck to get rid off Mithun to end the dangerous 98 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. The right arm medium pace bowler struck by getting Shafiul Islam off the final ball of 18th over and then got wickets of Mustafizur Rahman and Animul Islam to end with best figures in T20I cricket of 6 for 7 in 3.2 overs. For his brilliance, Deepak Chahar was awarded the man of the match and was awarded the man of the series.

One day internationals

Mohammed Shami was the latest bowler in One day internationals to pick up an hattrick during the World Cup match against Afghanistan played on 22nd June 2019 at Rose Bowl, Southampton. Defending a modest total of 225 runs to win, Afghanistan 16 runs off the last over, Shami got the dangerous Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to give India a memorable win.

Kuldeep Yadav took a brilliant hattrick against Australia in the 2nd ODI match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 21st September 2017. He was brilliant with his bowling dismissing Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins to give India a massive win.

Kapil Dev also registered an hat-trick against Sri Lanka played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata during the Asia Cup finals played on 4th January 1991. He took wickets of Roshan Mahanama, Rumesh Ratnayake, Sanath Jayasuriya. India won the match easily by 7 wickets.

Chetan Sharma was the first Indian bowler to pick up an hattrick in One day internationals played at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on 31st October 1987. He took wickets of Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen Chatfield. All these dismissals were bowled.

Test matches

Jasprit Bumrah was the latest Indian bowler to pick up an hattrick against West Indies in the 2nd Test match played at Sabina Park, Jamaica. He ripped the hosts batting line up in the first innings taking wickets of Darren Bravo, Shamrah Brooks and Roston Chase to help India register a big lead.

Irfan Pathan was brilliant with his hattrick against Pakistan in the 3rd Test match played at National Stadium, Karachi on 29th January 2006. He picked Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf. Despite his efforts, India lost the match.

Harbhajan Singh became the first Indian to pick up an hattrick during the 2nd Test match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 11th March 2001. He dismissed Ricky Pointing, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne. Thanks to VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid record partnership, India won the historical match.
