Remarkable Rashid puts Afghanistan in the driver’s seat

An all-round performance by Rashid Khan helps Afghanistan end the 2nd day in a strong position against Bangladesh played at Zahur Chaudhary Ahmed Stadium, Chattogram on Friday.

Starting on the overnight score of 271 for 5, it was not a great start for Afghanistan as Asghar Afghan played a poor stroke and was caught by Mushfiqur for a brilliant 92. Rashid Khan came to the crease and took on the Bangladeshi bowlers with aggressive intent. Taijul Islam and Shakib AL Hasan kept picking wickets. Khan continued his aggressive intent and reached his 50 off 50 balls and final batsmen to be dismissed by Mehidy Miraz Hasan.
Afghanistan was bowled out for 342 runs in the 1st innings.

Yamin Ahmadzai got the early breakthrough dismissing Shadman Islam in the 1st over. Bangladesh ended the 1st session at a score of 1 for 1.

After the lunch break, Afghanistan bowlers kept the lid on Bangladeshi batsmen with tight bowling. Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das added 38 runs for the 2nd wicket. Mohammad Nabi dismissed Soumya Sarkar for 17. Rashid Khan was simply sensational with his bowling picking his 1st wicket getting Liton Das with a beauty of a delivery.

Shakib AL Hasan and Mominul Haque tried to steady the innings before Rashid Khan dismissed Bangladesh captain Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim to leave hosts in big trouble at 88 for 5 at tea break.

Rashid Khan struck again after the tea break dismissing Mahmudullah. Mominul Haque looked impressive with his technique and reached his 50 of 69 balls. Mohammad Nabi got the wicket of well Mominul Haque for 52. Mehidy Miraz Hasan looked impressive with his technique. Qais Ahmad dismissed Mehidy with a beauty to leave Bangladesh in real trouble at 146 for 8. Mosaddek Hossain and Taijul Islam steadied the innings and added unbeaten 48 runs for the 9th wicket so far. Bangladesh ended the 2nd day on 194 for 8, still trail by 148 runs.
