England seal the series with a thrilling win in Super Over

England defeated New Zealand in the fifth and deciding T20I match played at Eden Park, Auckland in a rain curtailed match on Sunday.

In a rain curtailed match reduced to 11 overs side, England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to field first. New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and Colin Munro got hosts off to a flying start putting pressure on Curran brothers. At the end of 3 overs, New Zealand were 55 for 0.

Guptill looked in aggressive touch and took on England bowlers to reach his fifty off 19 balls. Soon after reaching his fifty, Guptill was dismissed by Adil Rashid. Guptill and Munro added 83 runs in 5.1 overs. Colin de Grandhomme fell cheaply for 6. Tim Seifert came to the crease taking the attack to England bowlers scoring a quick fire 39 off 15 balls with 1 four and 5 sixes. Colin Munro fell after scoring 46 off 21 balls. New Zealand posted competitive total of 146 for 5 in 11 overs.

Chasing the target of 147 runs to win, England lost 2 early wickets of Tom Banton and James Vince. Eoin Morgan came to the crease and scored a quick fire 17 off 7 balls. Morgan and Bairstow added 30 runs for the 3rd wicket. At the end of 3 overs, England were 39 for 3.

Jonny Bairstow and Sam Curran steadied the innings for England hitting boundaries which put New Zealand bowlers under pressure. Both added 61 runs for the 4th wicket before Bairstow and Sam Curran went in quick succession to leave England in trouble at 101 for 5. With 16 runs required off last over, James Neesham gave away 4 runs from 3 balls, Chris Jordan bought England back into the game hitting a boundary from the final ball and took the game to Super Over.

In the Super Over, Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan smashed 17 runs off Tim Southee bowling. Chris Jordan bowled a brilliant over giving away 8 runs and helped England win the match by 9 runs.

England 146 for 7 in 11 overs ( Jonny Bairstow 47, Mitchell Santer 2/20, Trent Boult 2/35) and 17 for 0 in 1 over) beat New Zealand 146 for 5 in 11 overs ( Martin Guptill 50, Colin Munro 46, Saqib Mahmood 1/20) and 8 for 1 in 1 over) won in eliminator.

England wins the 5 match T20I series by 3-2. It was an amazing performance by both teams as there was some brilliant hitting in this decider.
